The Darker Side of Love, 1

Michael found his perfect submissive in McKenzie and has reveled in training her. She is the faultless masochist to his sadist yet Michael refuses to accept he has also fallen in love with her. He is terrified to give her his heart and makes every attempt to drive her away. When Michael threatens a course that will destroy them both, ’Kenzie accepts defeat and leaves, choosing to save him from himself. This time her deep and abiding love dictates she must lead in order to serve. Michael desperately searches for her, knowing she has nowhere to go, no one to turn to—he has come to his senses too late. Fate intervenes and he is granted another chance to proclaim what he now admits: he loves McKenzie more than life itself. All it takes is a promise to restore her trust and Michael does the right thing.

This is a previously published work. It has been revised and edited for Baronet Press.

Excerpt:

He had no memory of crossing the room or of taking his cousin by the shoulders and shaking Jenifer until her up do came down. The impact of the stiletto on his toes brought his attention back in short order.

“Where?”

He didn’t recognize his voice. His one word question erupted from somewhere in the middle of his chest or a little lower, and was painfully quiet, if chock full of some kind of emotion he didn’t stop to analyze. Jenifer actually stepped back a pace and regarded him with what looked a little like consternation. This was clearly a big learning curve for both of them.

“I’ll take you. I have no idea of the address but Gerald will drive us. I slipped out before McKenzie noticed me so she wouldn’t run again.”

He didn’t want to go with Jenifer. He wanted to go by himself and make a careful plan. But maybe this was better. He wouldn’t get too crazy if Jenifer was with him, and McKenzie might feel reassured if she saw his cousin too. He would sweep his woman up in his arms like the Prince did with Cinderella and bring her back home. That was the real royal equation. Jenifer would pat McKenzie’s hand or something and tell her it was for the best. He was suddenly adrift on hope and, with what he hoped would be to his everlasting credit, his cock took a backseat to his heart.

Nodding, he followed his cousin out of the apartment without any regard for his appearance, clambering into the limo. Gerald pulled out into traffic and despite Michael’s raving hurry, got them there in a remarkably short period of time. McKenzie was hiding in plain sight, maybe right from the day he drove her out. His heart pounded so hard he was certain the windows were vibrating in concert with the thumping and it hurt to take in a full breath. His sub was alive and he would go in and find her there and she would run to him and apologize for worrying him and he would take her home and punish her and propose to her and it would all turn out. He blew through the door with Jenifer hard on his heels and the fantasy went to shit.

He saw her immediately. McKenzie raised her head in response to the weight of his stare, not, he was certain, as a result of the little tinkling bell over the door. He never wanted to see that look again, although knew he’d see it in his sleep for decades to come, a poignant reminder whenever he fucked up. The blood drained from his woman’s face and even her lips looked colorless. Eyes resembling nothing less than starburst sapphires shone above the dark circles etching the fine skin beneath them, dominating her sweet face. She looked absolutely exhausted, thin, totally beautiful and horrified and his sadist didn’t respond an iota, not even when her expression turned to abject terror. Her small hands came away from the heavy iron she’d been pushing along some fabric to lift in front of her, as if to ward off evil. Sweet lips parted and even with the cacophony of sounds in the shop he swore he could hear McKenzie suck in a gulp of air with the intensity of being administered last rites. She began to back away, body trembling, even hidden from view as it was beneath some kind of white smock.

A little Chinese woman shrieked something, breaking the spell, diving for the iron beginning to smoke against the material it rested on. The grey, curling vapor added to the bizarre affect and Michael wondered if the sprinkler system would engage and cast a further pall over the whole scenario. The woman waved her hands frantically and distracted him for a moment. When he looked again at McKenzie she was clutching the circular rack from which all kinds of clothing hung, and he could see her white knuckles even from his position on the other side of the counter.

Pushing through the opening by the cash register, he slowly approached his terrified sub, never breaking eye contact, broken but gentle words falling from his mouth, trying to reassure McKenzie so she wouldn’t run, to ease the look on her face. A large woman stepped between them, followed by a man a quarter of her size, presumably the other half of the woman now brandishing the iron, and Michael halted. He felt like a predator denied its prey, though a gentle, loving predator.

“McKenzie. Please.” He didn’t think he had ever pleaded with her before but would crawl through broken glass, through fire if need be. “I’d like to talk to you.”

“This the guy who fucked you up, Kenzie?” The female wrestler tossed the question over a broad shoulder in McKenzie’s direction, no doubt wanting to toss him out the door on his ass.

When I met Drew at that damn wedding our chemistry was off the charts. All he could offer was the weekend, but uncharacteristically, I jumped at it. When he slipped away like a thief in the night I was blindsided by loss, even knowing people don’t fall in love at first sight! He left me a lifelong reminder though, one to make its appearance in about seven months. Too bad he’d never know…

She was always on my mind, and I couldn’t afford the distraction in this forsaken country where one false move could mean my death. My sniper training dissolved when I thought about Katie and our time together. I was a one and done kind of guy, but this time it was different. I’d be stateside in a few months and offer the apology she deserved. Maybe she’d forgive me, if there wasn’t another man in her life…

Excerpt:

The equally pale piece of paper took shape against the quartz countertop when I set the cup down. My breath shortened and something central in my chest tightened. Fingers creeping across the smooth surface, I inched the note closer. Block printing in a heavy, masculine hand delivered the message with utter clarity.

Katie- Got the call. Deployed sooner than expected. Stole a kiss goodbye. I’ll treasure our time together. Drew

My hand drifted up to touch my lips. They trembled and I pressed them firm, sucking in a lungful of air through my nose. I was such a treasure that people abandoned me. A mirthless laugh escaped past my hand and I swiftly catalogued the situation, regaining control. Attended a wedding and met a hot guy. Fucked said guy. So what? Lots of women hooked up, nothing surprising. Had great sex. No harm, no foul. After all, he’d set the parameters upfront. One … and done.

Picking the note up by a corner, I carried it over to the trash and dropped it in, then poured the remaining coffee down the sink. Best not to think about all the confidences shared during the recovery times, or the laughter and easy banter. The way I thought we’d connected past the fucking. Sex didn’t have to make things awkward, right? And now, if I felt like yesterday’s bread, well, I’d done it to myself. And my name was Kate.

Checking the time, I hurried to pull out some clothes suitable for brunch. My girlfriends met in half an hour and I had no reason to miss it today. No need to mention how I’d filled the better part of the weekend either. I yanked the bedding off the mattress and wadded it up, jamming the linens into the hamper. My housekeeper would take care of the rest.

Adding a spritz of citrus, I smoothed the sundress over my thighs, then grabbed my purse. Moving on.

Blurb:

Kidnapped because of her father’s wrongdoings, Bianca Fontaine is interrogated for any hint of his whereabouts by a man she has no reason to be drawn to. Who falls for their kidnapper? Especially an arrogant, hard man who is bound by duty—with those intriguing soft and caring qualities he hates to show. She’s learned the truth about her mother’s disappearance and her reality is suspect, except for the one constant—Ellis Valiant.

Ellis Valiant is indeed a hard man, but he’s already destroyed Bianca’s world and could make it worse if he doesn’t send her away. But when he finds her exploring her submissive side in the sex club fronting for his organization, his noble efforts fall by the wayside and he steps up as her Dom. Except Ellis harbors a secret, an insurmountable one, and Bianca will surely hate him when it comes to light.

Be warned: BDSM, spanking, public exhibition

Excerpt:

Pushing her into the back seat of the closest SUV, his big hand on the crown of her head, between it and the door frame, invader number one climbed in beside her. The man who said she was worthless as a hostage got in behind the wheel. Scrambling across the leather surface, Bianca huddled against the door, wondering if she might throw herself out and make a run for it. But where? There was no ally in the traitor Mrs. Doucette and they’d probably shoot Max in retaliation. She prayed the housekeeper would care for her dog as she promised. The older woman had never been anything but kind to him, but then she’d been kind to Bianca too. Bianca chewed the inside of her cheek. Maybe her father would get Max back when he ransomed or came for her. She had to hold onto some kind of hope of rescue, maybe before things happened to her. Anybody with money at her schools was versed in possible kidnappings, and the lurid tales left a vile taste in the back of her throat.

The man beside her pulled off his hood, running his fingers through flattened hair. Bianca stared. She knew she was staring, but was incapable of doing anything about it. It was like looking at a carefully sculpted face of a Roman god. High cheekbones, deeply set golden eyes framed by a thicket of black lashes under dark brows, incongruous with the thick blond hair curling to his collar, and a chiseled set of lips. The door shut, plunging the vehicle into relative darkness as its light extinguished and deprived her of that rock star visage. Of a killer.

“Fuck, man. You let her see your face!”

His deep voice retorted, “It’s not like Fontaine doesn’t know who crashed his party, Dave.”

Over the grind of the ignition she heard the driver mutter, “And it’s not like she’s ever going home.” A shadow of fabric passed in front of the muted lights from the dash instruments for a moment as he too pulled off his mask, tossing it aside. Her chances of surviving this just narrowed from fifty to zero percent, and she desperately needed to pee.

They drove in silence, the other vehicles falling in behind to form a convoy as they bumped through the ruined gates and gained the main road. Aside from their initial comments, neither man spoke, and she too remained silent. Her thoughts clamored to be heard but she couldn’t put them in any real semblance of order. Kidnapped. Check. They were going to make her talk about her father. Check. They planned to try to ransom her. Check. Except they didn’t think that would prove fruitful. Wouldn’t her father move heaven and earth to get her back? Except he wasn’t a family-first kind of guy … she didn’t want to understand the inference but accepted it was huge. Nightmare. Check. She concentrated on her breathing and drew on her reserves when she really wanted to scream the roof down.

“What’s with her, Ellis?” The driver finally spoke up. “She hasn’t said boo since she gave up the old man. Must be her father’s daughter, eh?”

Feeling his eyes boring into her, she turned inward. Ellis. An unusual name. Had she heard it before?

“Plenty of time to talk later, Dave. You hear of shock?” Ellis spoke quietly.

“Maybe,” answered Dave. “Most women would be crying and carrying on though. Can’t say I don’t like her reaction. Easier to put up with. Although there’s a ball gag in the dash.”

Ball gag? She bit her lip and swallowed convulsively, an action so awkward it hurt her throat.

“You plotting, Bianca?”

Despite herself, she jerked when Ellis used her name. Had she really thought they wouldn’t know it? Especially when they seemed well apprised of other things involving her father. A thought right out of the blue struck her with the same impact as a blow to the face might. Did they know where her mother was?

“I expect an answer, little one.” The velvety threat wove through his voice.

She shook her head, not trusting her voice. His hand grasped her upper arm and dragged her closer. His scent overwhelmed her, leather, gun oil and male. “Answer me. Are you plotting?”

“No,” she whispered. She stared into his face, the flood of lighting from the other cars’ headlights giving him a faintly demonic look. Had Mike seen that look in his eyes before this Ellis struck him down?

He released her with a slight smile. “Good. Then I’ll leave you to it. If you try to escape you’ll be punished.”

Easing back, building distance between them, Bianca tried to get her shakes under control. So far he hadn’t hurt her, despite his obvious ability to do so. She decided not to think about what this Ellis meant by punishment, and instead considered what might lay ahead if she cooperated. They seemed professional, like her father’s bodyguards, although surely Mike had taken a stupid risk—and paid for it. She didn’t particularly care for the man, but now tears pricked. His sacrifice had been for naught. She could hope they would treat her like a valuable commodity—until she wasn’t.

Unprofessional (MF) ~ Allyson Young

10 Oct 6th - Unprofessional

Blurb:

Hannah Evans is personal assistant to the very professional Benjamin Willis, and he keeps her firmly in that role. Her boss is a great man, and if he rewards himself with a large number of blondes, well, even great men can be misguided. Hannah couldn’t ask for anything more in her job—except she’s fallen for her boss. And now Mr. Willis seems to be seeking more than mere pleasure. What if he finds a woman with a beauty and brains? Unable to bear the idea, Hannah submits her resignation.

Faced with losing her, Benjamin’s entire being reacts in shock, dismay and outrage, causing him to examine how he actually views Hannah. She has had months to come to terms with her strong emotions while he has had mere hours. But Benjamin is a quick study and discovers his true feelings for the woman who has been right under his nose.

Excerpt:

“Hannah.” Her name fell harshly from his lips and she blinked several times, appearing to get herself under control. “Tell me why you’re leaving.” Leaving me.

“I appreciate the opportunity,” she nearly whispered. “Seeing as I had no experience.”

“You said that in your letter of resignation,” he agreed. “And I was happy to give it to you. You proved yourself quickly.” He shifted a tad closer and studied the rising color in her cheeks.

“I … I can’t stay on. Big world of opportunity out there and all.”

“You’re not telling me the truth. How bad can it be?”

Giving into an instinctive urge, he grasped her other hand and hauled her close. He locked his gaze with hers when she looked up, startled. “Tell me,” he insisted.

“I can’t.” She nearly whimpered and a good man would have backed off and let her go. He couldn’t find it within himself to do it.

Recognizing he couldn’t force her to confide, he resorted to sneakier tactics. He turned on the charm and cajoled. “Hannah, you’re invaluable to me and I can’t get my head around finding someone to replace you. Is it something I’ve done? Is the salary an issue?”

A shake of her head sent more strands of hair drifting down to her shoulders, these longer than the others, and they rested against the upper swells of her breasts. His stare traced their path before he glanced up to see her eyes wide with surprise. God, she was lovely. Smart, skilled and talented, all woman. Different from—

“Benjamin?” His name wasn’t on Hannah’s lips but spoken at his office door. He recognized that voice. “Benjamin?”

He could only imagine how it looked, his disheveled PA sprawled in a chair, him kneeling at her feet, holding her hands captive and their faces mere inches apart. With an effort, he turned his head and acknowledged his latest fling. Past fling. “Give me a minute, Tiffany.”

Hannah quivered and tried to pull away, but he hung on tightly, willing the tall blonde out of his office.

“I see you’ve already replaced me,” she replied, scorn and anger coloring her voice. At any other time, he might have found her alluring, all flushed with outrage and passion. As usual, Tiffany was dressed to the nines in a body-revealing outfit that displayed her long, slender figure and enhanced breasts to full advantage. But she left him cold, something new, because he rarely tired of his blondes physically, choosing to keep his hookups brief to avoid emotional attachment.

Tiffany sneered at Hannah. “She’s hardly your taste. Pudgy and plain, wouldn’t you say?”

If he hadn’t known to keep hold of Hannah, wrapping his hands around Tiffany’s elegant neck might have been an excellent alternative. “Get out.”

“Gladly. You’re welcome to him, secretary-type. It won’t last, especially as he’s slumming.”

He spared her only enough of a look to ensure she had indeed gone before turning back to Hannah. Who was staring at him with a multitude of emotions washing over her expressive features.

“She’s different than the others.” Well, that was the last thing he expected.

“Excuse me?” He knew he sounded astonished.

“She has a career. So she must use her brain. And she meets all your other criteria.”

Hannah would know, he acknowledged inwardly. Except it appeared she was wrong— his preferences were changing. Had changed. His lower body, and not his now aching knees, was in total agreement. Hannah had been under his nose all this time with her quiet, efficient ways and non-intrusive manner, yet he would bet she knew more about him than he knew about himself. But she was leaving, so obviously didn’t feel the same. No point in opening that door, especially as he lacked the tools. He ground his back teeth against a disappointed growl and clambered to his feet after carefully setting Hannah’s hands on her lap.

“I’m sorry she said those things.”

“Which ones?” She sounded intent, earnest, and peered up at him.

“She insulted you.”

Hannah shrugged and those round breasts lifted higher on her torso. “No comparison. We aren’t even the same species, I don’t think.”

Benjamin laughed. That was the effect Hannah had on him despite all that had just taken place. He felt … happy around her. And there was that shift again. She’d been an enormous part of his life for over a year. He’d spent more time—awake at least—with her than any other person. His laughter faded when he imagined the future without her.

Vanquished (M/F) ~ Allyson Young

07 Jul 2nd - Vanquished

Blurb:

In the future, Earth negotiated a treaty with the Shadalla, only to wage another war with the Juxtant. Together, humans and Shadalla defeat that mortal enemy, but corruption and greed always prevails.

Vayne Palldyn, Sovereign of the planet Nibiru, is determined that his species not become extinct, and will take revenge on those who unleashed that genetic bio weapon. His kind has kidnapped human women before, and despite the Treaty none returned to Earth—the Shadalla have a biological advantage in seducing Chosen mates.

Honorably discharged warrior Neira Grekhov boards the starship Astris, seeking peace but succumbing to soul sickness. Until the Astris is boarded by pirates.

Spying Neira ferociously defending her fellow passengers, Vayne pursues her, as his Chosen. Neira resists, and despite healing her emotionally the Sovereign wonders if he must concede defeat at the hands of this infuriating woman.

Then the stars align and truths are discovered…

Excerpt:

Daggers at the ready, the three pirates once again approached the doors. Vayne spied a young, fair-haired male standing wide-eyed, his mouth dropping open as Barek, Duff and their Captain charged from the lift. Vayne followed on their heels, wincing as they mowed the young man down with a hit to the head. Then all chaos descended.

A significantly smaller figure, dressed completely in black, waded into the triangle of pirates. It laid Barek low with well-placed blows to his knees and an uppercut to his jaw as he fell to the ground. The baton inflicting the punishment flashed in a blur of movement to match the warrior’s whirling grace. Vayne was already moving to assist when the fighting dervish dealt with Duff, body moving with grace and deadly intent, bringing the pirate down with punishment to his kidneys. Short black hair gleamed in the harsh lighting as the warrior spun to take on Captain Ristos.

Vayne used his shocker, nearly catching one slender, black clad shoulder as their opponent made contact with Ristos’ ribcage, the baton making a dull, wet sound. But the little warrior whirled out of range, turning to renew the attack, and the bolt spent itself harmlessly against the bulkhead. Vayne’s cock filled and stood at full attention, causing him considerable discomfort in his tight-fitting space uniform. By the shades of Turco, it was a female. He locked eyes with orbs a brilliant shade of the golden gemstones so prized on his planet before she charged, moving gracefully on the balls of her bare feet.

“He dies!” Duff’s howl cut through the tension as Vayne prepared to defend himself, and the female halted, stumbling as she did so. Duff held his weapon at the young male’s throat, vicious intent written across his features.

“No, don’t,” the lithe beauty called out, and Vayne watched, transfixed, as she dropped to her knees, carefully laying down the lethal weapon she used so efficiently. She then clasped her hands behind her neck.

Nothing in her posture spoke of true submission, but it didn’t matter to Vayne’s cock. That appendage throbbed painfully and he was at a loss as to how to calm it. Never had he ever… Vayne struggled to make his body move. Ristos moved first.

Kicking aside the baton, he gestured to Duff, who released his hold on the still-unconscious young male. Was this woman attached to the man? Vayne shook his head. It didn’t matter. She was now his.

“Secure her.”

Ristos bent and clipped a pair of solar cuffs around the woman’s wrists, and Vayne approved of how efficient the captain was, yet afforded the little female respect. He wasn’t the only male to appreciate her attempt to defend this deck. The restraints emitted slight whirring sounds as they engaged. Charged by any light source, they were virtually impervious to tampering and would open only to the owner’s print. Vayne pulled the control from the captain’s hand, entered his own print to replace that of Ristos’, then crushed the control beneath his boot.

As desperate as the Shadalla were, their scientists had confirmed the compatibility of Earth females to breed and bear their children, and some of his species’ males had actually found their chosen. Gone was Vayne’s need to merely pick a female out of the women on this ship, using careful parameters to ensure she was suited for his position, able to bear his children, and of a nature and appearance to stimulate his desires in order to put those offspring in her belly. Royal concubines weren’t unheard of, after all, and the odds of him finding a chosen were slight. But he couldn’t look any further, impossibly drawn to this imperious warrior at his feet. And should he ever be fortunate enough to find an actual chosen mate, this lovely woman would retain concubine status, regardless.

“Bring the men out. Offer. I’ll send my exec to scrutinize the females.” He wasn’t that overwhelmed to forget he had a duty to other men in his service.

He reached down and fit a hand under the elbow of the female, and his world turned upside down. The physical attraction had been immediate, granted. But the instant he touched her and her scent enveloped him, his brain exploded with a revelation he’d only experienced once in his life—and a very subdued and pale version at that. One manipulated by science. Vayne didn’t need another minute with her to understand the symptoms and wished to shout his joy out loud. She was a chosen and not his future concubine. She came up with the lightness of gossamer, and only his quick reflexes saved him from a knee to the groin as he turned to catch the blow on his thigh. Little spitfire.
